Saadani Safari Lodge
Saadani Safari Lodge neatly described by one guest in the visitor's book
as a"symbiosis of luxury with nature" Saadani Safari Lodge has recently
been taken over, rebuilt and fully refurbished.
The enthusiasm for nature is infectious and the lodge provides
everything you need as a haven from which to explore - comfort, warm and
generous spirited service, a true love of the natural world and the
prettiest surroundings. What makes the Lodge unique is the absence of
coconut trees. Whilst this distracts from the typical image of tropical
beaches, it means the true indigenous plants of the Savanna are
conserved in one of the last coastal nature reserves in Africa.

Saadani Safari
Lodge, exclusively set in the Heart of Saadani National Park, Tanzania.
Beach, Bush and river have been thrown together in such a colorful clash
of ecosystems that there is nothing to compare with it anywhere on the
Eastern Coast of Africa. At Saadani Safari Lodge, the only lodge in the
National Park, the Indian Ocean breaks almost to the foot of your bed
directly onto African Bush and forces it way into the Wami River on the
rising tide, just down the coast. Elephants have been known to cavort on
the beach and just a stone's throw from the open sea, Hippos wallow in
the river estuary. The enthusiasm for nature is infectious and the lodge
provides everything you need as a haven from which to explore - comfort,
warm and generous spirited service, a true love of the natural world and
the prettiest surroundings.
Having time to sit
and absorb the surroundings are equally important at Saadani Safari
Lodge as launching out on daily adventures to bush, beach and river. But
actually the most important thing is being able to do what you want when
you want. A minute's stroll behind the lodge brings you to the hide
overlooking a waterhole. Here someone will bring you sundowners or tea
and cake, whilst you watch animals drinking to the sounds of waves
breaking on the beach just beyond them. Your cottage veranda is a lovely
cool, breezy spot for an afternoon snooze before a game walk or boat
ride. A fire set on the Beach below the lodge provides a romantic
backdrop for drinks before dinner.
The lofty main
building, grass-roofed and made from local wood, rests on stilts amongst
a stand of dramatic screw palms overlooking the sea. Meals are served on
the lower deck, with menus focusing largely on feasts of fresh prawns
and other seafood, which are a specialty of the area and bought to
Saadani's kitchens daily. Higher up, towards the expansive rafters, a
sitting room and sundowner deck gives panoramic views of the ocean on
one side and the bush on the other, and is a lovely place for drinks
before dinner. Each morning a tray of tea, coffee and fresh juice is
brought to your veranda, from which you can wake gently with the rising
sun before starting your day's adventure. Out at sea there is a small
tidal sand island set in clear waters, which makes a lovely full day
ocean boat trip. Here, you can picnic lunch under shade on the cool
island sand and there are good snorkeling spots just offshore. Dolphins
and green Turtles are often seen at the island and love to play around.
