TARANGIRE SOPA LODGE
The Tarangire Sopa Lodge is built as a 'low profile'
structure, nestled into a wooded hillside valley
overlooking Tarangire Hill. It has wall-to-wall
carpeting, a private lounge with a mini bar, a bedroom
with two queen size beds, an en-suite bathroom with
shaver sockets and a hair dryer, and a private verandah
which offers stunning views over the baobab studded
landscape. The unique swimming pool which is located at
the edge of a rocky gorge has its own bar and snack
kitchen and offers a refreshing interlude between game
drives.
Sopa Lodge
Opened in 1995, the lodge can accommodate 160 guests in
75 suites, each enjoying wall-to-wall carpeting, a
private lounge with a mini bar, a bedroom with two queen
size beds and ample room for a third, an en-suite
bathroom with shaver sockets and a hair dryer, and a
private verandah which offers stunning views over the
baobab studded landscape.
The Lodge
Hidden among the kopjes, lies Tarangire Sopa Lodge,
surrounded by ancient baobab trees. It is the home of
the greatest concentration of elephants in Africa, and
other game including the elusive leopard. Over 400 bird
species can be spotted here as well. With water
constantly available in the area, the greenery is lush
providing a wonderful contrast to the burnt ground..
Location
In the Tarangire National Park which covers an area of
2800 sq km. The lodge lies 118 km south west of Arusha,
approximately 2 hours drive from Arusha town
Lobby
Spacious and airy with marble floors, and has glass
sliding doors that open out to a verandah where one can
relax and enjoy the view.
The ceiling has a wooden finishing, and the décor with
plants in strategic places, gives it a feeling of total
relaxation, much needed after the long and dusty drive
to the lodge
Accommodation
75 spacious rooms, all with a private lounge on entering
with a mini bar.
Each room is carpeted, has 2 queen size beds with a
mosquito net around them. Ceiling fans keep the rooms
cool and glass sliding doors that open out on to a
balcony, with a great view of the landscape beyond, and
wildlife can some times be spotted.
4 of these rooms are suitable for the physically
challenged.

Located between the lobby and the dining room,
comfortable seats for total relaxation.

Circuit?
• High Concentration (Numbers) Of
Animal And Bird Life: Tarangire National Park has the
highest number of elephants in the whole of the northern
Tanzania parks, exceeding Lake Manyara and Serengeti.
There have also been a 550 bird species recorded in the
Tarangire National Park, making a sure pleaser for any
bird lover. The park displays a diverse number of
wildlife namely: elephant, lesser and great kudu,
African buffalo, cheetah, fringe-eared Oryx, leopard,
lion, Maasai giraffe, spotted hyena, common zebra,
white-bearded wildebeest, warthog, eland, olive baboon,
bat-eared fox, impala, common waterbuck, bushbuck,
coke's hartebeest, gerenuk, and bohor reedbuck.
• Superb Landscape and Vegetation: The landscape and
vegetation at Tarangire combines a mix not found in Lake
Manyara, Ngorongoro Crater or Serengeti, common parks

Wildlife in the
Park
Tarangire is perhaps best known for its large
herds of elephants. The park is home to around
2500 elephants and herds of more than 200 have
been viewed from the lodge veranda.
With its varied habitats and permanent water in
the Tarangire River the park is home to a large
diversity of wildlife; 94 species of mammals,
and over 500 bird species have been recorded in
Tarangire.
