ARUSHA NATIONAL PARK
Hatari Lodge is situated at the
Northern edge of Arusha National Park - the long forgotten secret -
in the heart of Tanzania. Measuring roughly 150 square kilometers it
combines within its boundaries the vast variety of many other parks
in northern Tanzania: craters, lakes, savannah, plains and on top of
it a mountain!
The Little Serengeti" plains in the south, walk to stunning gorges
and waterfalls in the north, enjoy the tropical mountain
rainforests, experience the diverse fauna and flora along the
Momella Lakes with its rich flamingo population and discover the
secret haven of the hidden Ngurdoto Crater - nick-named "little
Ngorongoro" due to its stunning beauty and rich wildlife. All these
highlights are towered by the shining glaciers of Kilimanjaro and
the horseshoe-like cliffs and the peak of Mt. Meru – occasionally
covered with snow. Arusha National Park is undoubtedly one of the
most beautiful destinations in the country.
First gazette in 1960, Arusha National Park is located 29
kilometers east of Arusha city and 36 km from Kilimanjaro
International Airport.

As a guest of
Hatari Lodge a variety of half day or full day activities may be
arranged.
Due to our location on the boundary of Arusha National Park we are
very close to all the major attractions of the park.
Early morning game drive in the National Park to Ngurdoto Crater
reaching Buffalo Viewpoint. Excellent View over and into Ngurdoto
Crater and the sun lit volcanic walls of Mt. Meru.
Watch Colobus and Sykes monkey waking up on their favorite night
resting branches and look down onto herds of buffalo, giraffe,
warthog as well as elephant which you usually find on the crater
floor.
Additional for the active: Walk along crater rim to the northern
side with great views on Kilimanjaro. Late picnic breakfast at
Leitong Viewpoint. Return via "Little Serengeti" with zebras and
bushbuck ever common to Hatari Lodge for lunch! |

Hatari Lodge is only a dozen miles away from the
nearest maasai area.
As part of the activities and experiences
offered through the lodge, a visit to a Maasai
village shall give reflection on culture and
customs of this famous tribe of Africa. Spending
time with elders, who share with you the
historical background and make you sense the
vast dimensions of Maasailand.
The traditional role of women and children in
the society of the Maasai is being reflected as
well as the making of beads and souvenirs for
tourists.
"Introducing you to the Maasai culture",
includes the preparation of various digging
sticks, the gathering of an extraordinary
variety and number of medical plants, the
preparation of traditional foods, hunting
preparation, poison grub collecting, rope plant
collecting, fire making etc...
