Barafu Route Climbing or Barafu Route Trekking.
The Barafu Route Climbing or Barafu Route Trekking is used as the way up to the summit for groups that have approached by the Lemosho, Machame, Umbwe or Shira Routes. These routes lead to the high level traverse beneath the Southern Ice fields, the Kibo South Circuit, which in turn leads to the Barafu / Mweka Route. This traverse is one of the more scenic walks on Kilimanjaro.
From Barafu Camp, the ascent to Stella Point on the crater rim takes about 5 to 6 hours and the summit is a further 40 minutes away. The path zig-zags up steep screes, sometimes snow may be encountered on the upper section. In descent it provides a good scree run for much of the way
